My experience in this class…

This has been a surprisingly good class, nothing personal. I was worried that this class would be over my head since I am new to html and css design. The pace that the class has been going and the assignments that are given really helps me to follow along. Now, I am worried about starting a functional multi-page web site. I fell that would be a real challenge.

Designing for Web vs. Designing for Print

The most obvious difference is that complicated detail works well (to a larger extent) for print but no so well for web. For web, you have to consider loading speed, which in turn generally diminishes the amount of detail you can put into pictures on the web, textures for web pages, etc. I’m not saying it is impossible, but it takes very careful consideration. Designing for print can get very technical and elaborate, however, sometimes your printer can have a mini meltdown if your details conflict with it’s printing ability.

Five Web Designers

Bruce Livingstone

Bruce Livingstone is the creator of iStockphoto. iStockphoto is the largest databank of ready to use photos. Working with photos is no easy task, especially when it comes to logging and tagging each photo. I admire the sites variety of content and the ease of purchasing a subscription and having access to so many photos.

Shaun Inman

Shaun Inman is the creator of Mint technologies. Mint allows for a diagnostic and gauging of your website to determine visits, popular pages, searches, etc. I like the clean and consistent looks to his design. The user face appears to be easy to interpret and navigate.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin

Larry Page and Sergey Brin are the creators of Google. This site needs no explanation. It is pure genius. I use Google for just about everything. Sometimes I got to the page first and enter the company I’m looking for even when I know the company’s full URL.

Marko Dugonjic

Marko Dugonjic is the creator of Typetester. Typetester allows users to compare different typography to see how it looks on-line and in different formats (i.e. bold, small caps, 24 pt, italic, etc.)

Mark Zuckerberg

Although I hate to admit that I use Facebook on a regular basis, I have to give credit to Mark Zuckerberg. He is the creator of the ultra trendy and mega media giant Facebook. He put together an exclusive web-sharing page where people select or ignore people they want to interact with on-line.
